AI Governance in Business: The Risks That Can't Wait

AI Governance, Information Security, Cybersecurity

In three days, the world publicly disagreed on the pace of AI. None of this changes what is already running inside your company today.

Saturday (09/12): Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic, published an essay calling for the industry itself to slow down the advancement of models until the understanding of risks catches up with the speed of development. Sam Altman (OpenAI) and Elon Musk publicly supported it.

Monday (09/14): Volker Türk, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, called for "urgent action" to regulate AI. He said that "we are on the brink of an irreversible shift" and that today we rely "almost entirely on a small number of powerful companies" to make the right decisions.

On the same day, the US president went in the opposite direction: calling the slowdown request a "sick conspiracy" and writing that "the only one happy with this is China." A day earlier, in Ireland, he had already summarized his priority: "whoever wins AI, wins."

This debate will last for years. AI inside your operation didn't wait for it.

While regulation is being negotiated out there, inside your company, what are the main risks?

  • AI tools in use by teams, outside of any inventory, contract, or vendor assessment.

  • Sensitive data pasted into services no one has approved, leaving the perimeter untracked.

  • AI-generated code reaching production with the confidence of reviewed code, but without the review.

  • On the other side, attackers using the same tools to accelerate reconnaissance, write flawless phishing emails, and shorten the time between finding a vulnerability and exploiting it.

All four are solved with visibility and action.

At REVL, Pitang's Cybersecurity unit, we summarize this in three words: clarity is security.

AI governance begins with knowing what is already turned on, who is using it, what data is leaving the company, and what code is entering production.
